  • Ø State-of-the-Art Undergraduate Laboratory: The laboratories in the department are outfitted with all requisite setups and accessories, offering separate spaces such as a darkroom, general laboratory, and electrical/electronics lab tailored to both honours and general students. Supported by three dedicated lab assistants, students can confidently engage in various experiments during practical sessions.

Physics department routinely organizes seminars and workshops that serve as a platform for faculties, students, and visiting scholars to share recent research, discuss complex topics, and delve into emerging theories in physics.

 

1.  A Three-Day International Webinar was organized on “Recent Trends and Scopes in Physics” on  25-27 July, 2020 from 4:00PM to 5:30 PM on Microsoft Teams Platform

A three-day webinar focusing on advanced physics applications was successfully held from July 25 to July 27, 2020. This online event brought together experts from diverse domains within physics to share their latest research and developments in their respective fields.

 

Day 1: July 25, 2020

Title: "From Deterministic to Stochastic"

Speaker: Dr. Devdeep Sarkar, Vice President: Trading Strategist, Bank of America, NYC, USA

Summary:

Dr. Devdeep Sarkar initiated the webinar with an insightful talk on the transition from deterministic models to stochastic approaches in financial physics. His presentation delved into the complexities of market dynamics and highlighted how stochastic processes are crucial in understanding and predicting market behaviors.

 

Day 2: July 26, 2020

Title: "The Making of an Artificial Brain from a Time Crystal"

Speaker: Dr. Anirban Bandyopadhyay, Senior Scientist, National Institute for Materials Science, Tsukuba, Japan

Summary:

The second day featured a groundbreaking session by Dr. Anirban Bandyopadhyay, who discussed his pioneering work on developing an artificial brain using the concept of time crystals.

Day 3: July 27, 2020

Title: "Piezo and Tribo-Electric Application for Ongoing Pandemic"

2. State Level Seminar on 'Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future' held on Indian National Science Day in association with cultural committee on 28th February,2023 from 1 PM

On National Science Day, a State Level Seminar was organized on the theme 'Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future'. The seminar aimed to bring together experts from various fields to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in science and technology, with a focus on sustainability.

Speakers and Topics:

Prof. G.C. Shit, Department of Mathematics, Jadavpur University Topic: 'Recent trends in nanotechnology for drug targeted delivery: Modeling and simulation' Prof. Shit's presentation focused on the application of nanotechnology in targeted drug delivery systems. He discussed the latest trends in modeling and simulation techniques used to design and optimize these systems. The talk highlighted the potential of nanotechnology in improving the efficacy and specificity of drug delivery, reducing side effects, and enhancing patient outcomes.

 

Prof. Shib Sankar Saha, Electrical Engineering Department, Kalyani Government Engineering College Topic: 'Green Energy in Distributed Generation: Engineering Aspects and Challenges' Prof. Saha's presentation centered on the role of green energy in distributed power generation systems. He discussed the engineering aspects and challenges associated with integrating renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, into the existing power grid. The talk emphasized the importance of developing sustainable energy solutions to meet the growing energy demands while reducing the carbon footprint.

On the birth anniversary of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, a renowned Indian scientist and the namesake of A.J.C. Bose College, the institution organized the 5th Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Memorial Lecture. The lecture, titled 'A Cosmic Journey,' was delivered by the esteemed Dr. Debiprasad Duari, ex-Director of M.P. Birla Institute of Fundamental Research.
